Locksmiths

To determine if a vehicle requires a locksmith check in D-2000 Electronic Post under CAR REQ LS to see if the make and model is on the list. If it is not on the list the vehicle does not require a locksmith and should be spotted for a regular station.

If a member requests a locksmith for a vehicle that does not require a locksmith advise the member that the vehicle can be opened by a regular station. If the member persists see a supervisor for help.

If a station advises you that a vehicle requires a locksmith spot the call for the appropriate locksmith, document the call saying the station advises the car requires a locksmith, then give a copy of the call, with the comments on it already, to the Dispatch Supervisor. The DS will send the call to the field to determine if the vehicle should be put on the List in Electronic Post.

While a member may feel the fee charged by our contracted locksmith may seem high/more than it should be, you can be assured that it is within industry standards. We survey non –affiliated locksmiths periodically in order to ensure this. It must be kept in mind, that not only is the locksmith being reimbursed for his technical expertise, but also for his availability 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The fee can also vary depending upon the time of day, day of the week, and the location of the call. This fee may also increase over a period of time, such as the normal cost of doing business may increase.
